Counselling Psychology with Emma

Dr Emma Darroch
Counselling Psychologist

Emma is deeply passionate about dismantling the stigma and barriers that obstruct people’s engagement with their mental health.

She believes that everyone has mental health, but it’s not simply a matter of having it or not, or being labeled ‘healthy’ or ‘ill’. In Emma’s view, mental health is about how equipped we feel to face life’s challenges. The more emotional and psychological resources we have to deal with these challenges, the better we can manage distress and foster a sense of wellbeing and ‘health’.

Emma asserts that these resources are not innate; they are acquired through our life experiences and the coping ‘languages’ we develop to survive. When life’s demands exceed our available resources to cope effectively, that’s when we experience a sense of mental ‘ill-health’.
